The Story of Edgar Sawtelle By David Wroblewski

Yes this an Oprah pick and although I usually find the books she
chooses a bit too dark for my taste I love this one. I have been reading
this compelling novel during the dark days of December and happily getting
up at 6 am to read! This story is of a mute boy, Edgar, and his family who
are unique dog breeders. The family dynamics are interesting but what is
truly the hook of this novel is Edgar and his dogs. Their connections are
remarkable and inspiring. As I haven't finished this wonderful book as I
write this I find myself wondering what Edgar is doing at different times
during the day. I have no doubt this boy will continue to live in my
imagaination and heart long after I have closed the back cover on this
volume. This is only available in hardcover right now but well worth the
$32.95.
Join us for a group discussion of this book on the evening of January 28th
at Black Bear Books. 7pm. Treats and refreshments will be provided. This
will be the first of hopefully many discussions on a variety of books and
subjects. If you have a suggestion for a book discussion please email
Alison at ask@blackbearbooks.ca
